Talia is getting married on October 6, so I thought it would be fun if we gave her our best advice on marriage as she heads down the aisle.

I'll start:

Make your marriage a priority. At first it seems easy, but as work and kids and family and everything else begin to intrude, it becomes very easy to let the relationship between the two of you become less important. Don't let it happen. Always make time to connect as a couple and to spend time together privately talking about you as a couple.

A family that blogs together, stays together. Don't let your sidebars get cluttered and keep an eye out for trackback activity.

If you are a man getting married, do what my Dad does. He's been happily married for over 30 years and he is able to combine his sense of humor with his ability to keep a strong marriage. Whenever my Mom asks for his opinion on anything, he responds he doesn't know because she "hasn't told him what his opinion is yet." But seriously, as everyone knows, I think it is all about communication. Don't keep anything bottled up. It sounds crazy but the golden rule actually applies to marriage quite well. Be honest. Don't try too hard to impress, just be your yourself. And when you get to the point where you are considering kids, always put the kids first. Try not too fight over money. It's a trap we all fall into many times throughout life, but we always look back at it the same way, knowing it wasn't worth it and it only seemed to be the most important thing at the time. In the big scheme of life, it is all about sharing the good and bad moments with the people we care the most about, family and friends.
