New research has revealed that British drivers are carrying over £3 billion worth of gadgets in their vehicles, some of which is not covered under their car insurance policy.
According to the research conducted by Saga Motor Insurance, 42 per cent of drivers travel with a mobile phone or a handheld email device, 32 per cent with a satellite navigation system, 12 per cent with a DVD or an iPod, and 8 per cent with a laptop, adding up to some £3.8 billion worth of goods in their vehicles.
However, some eight million motorists stated that they carry gadgets worth over £200 in their vehicles at any one time despite having just £100 to £200 of cover for personal possessions.
Saga Group executive chairman, Andrew Goodsell stated that "the trend for in-car technology has led to a significant increase in the total value of a vehicle's contents."
While the insurance firm advises drivers to check their insurance policies, the Home Office is advising motoists who want to avoid filing a claim on their car insurance to ensure that theur belongings are not displayed in view of potential theives.
