Bikers must secure their vehicles, even if their vehicles are cheap and tatty

Motorcyclists riding low value models are being urged to ensure their vehicle is secure after research revealed that bike thieves are now targeting cheaper bikes.

The leading stolen vehicle recovery firm, Tracker, recovered in excess of £300,000 worth of motorbikes last year stating that bike thieves are now targeting a cheaper range of bikes.

Motorcylists are now being warned that by failing to ensure they secure their vehicle even though it may not be likely to catch the eye of thieves, the chances of making a claim on their bike insurance would be high.

Bill Raynal, managing director of the firm said: "All motorcycle owners need to take steps to protect their assets, as the current economic climate means many households aren't in the position to replace a stolen bike.

Having a tracking decive installed offers owners that added level of security, increasing their chances of recovering their stolen bike."
