Hi Kate. I think I'm being a bit slow, I can't find any way to send you a message, so i've sent you a friend request. I'm more than happy to help.

Right. There's no fool like an old fool they say, and I'm feeling pretty foolish right now, or maybe just out of my depth.

Anyone out there can assist me with a 'fatal error' I'm getting as I try to start up a new Wordpress org. theme installation on my new domain site? I've been through the Wordpress help forums but they don't do it for me. If this all sounds scary stuff ... it is! Some of us never learn, eh?

I've just been reading a few posts and comments from here and there noting how many Aussie bloggers there were in the small 31 Days challenge community originated by Michele Martin.

From the earliest days of Australian European colonial settlement, there has been a consciousness of being way 'down under' from the population hubs of the old world, coupled with the 'tyranny of distance' factor. This led to Australians throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries being noted by historians as great readers and letter-writers. Latterly, SMS messaging or 'texting' as it is know, has become extremely popular here. I wonder whether blogging is part of this Aussie 'stay in touch' phenomenon?

How important is the 'staying in touch' factor to your blogging? You don't have to be an Aussie to answer this one, but I'm curious how high this notion rates in your personal or professional rationale for blogging.

Maybe I'm drawing a long bow here ...

I've been reading the post from Cammy about the potential to 'expand the office walls' via blogging, surely one of the best social-learning applications. I've always been a time-poor academic, and conscious of the fact that I do not publish enough ... not enough time to write. This year, since I have been blogging on a regular basis, I have managed to get two papers published, and I know it's because I've written a little every day or so. That little expands a lot over time, and the cutting, pasting, and shaping into the paper that results seems to take far less time. Plus I've had 'peer-review' all along the way, and support. I'm smiling!

You know, much as I hate formulaic stuff, it's true that outrageous headlines, clever 'punny' headlines, and just plain different headlines grab attention. Once upon a time, newspaper banner-headlines were in the business of attracting readers this way.

Touching base half way in this week's challenge, I've tried to do a couple of question headlines, 'How to's' to keep the traffic incoming as the business types suggest, whilst balancing with other kinds. So working backwards from today, it's

How Digitally-Native are Gen-Y? (an open question)
How I Keep Blogging: Make it a Habit. (a question and an answer)
Power of the Personal: Mena Trott on Blogging (a catch-phrase with a real person in the title ... thanks Mena)
and I'm cheating here because it was last Saturday's post
The Proverbial Can (maybe not lyrical but catchy again)

So I'm going to keep trying out variations for the next few days.
This is fun Michele.
