Profile Information

Hometown:
Tampa, FL
About Me:
I am a veteran of the technology industry and now practice law with The Digital Business Law Group P.A.. We practice "digital law" otherwise known as cyberlaw. For all intents and purposes our national law practice is exclusively an online business. Most of our clients come from, and nearly all of our marketing efforts are directed to, the web. In other words, we eat the same dog food as our clients. Our online marketing campaigns drive our business. If you want to learn more about cyberlaw check out our tutorials at http://www.digitalbusinesslawgroup.com/tutorials.html.

I also continue to publish the web-tones at LawTechTV blog . This blog focuses on enabling technologies (i.e. Law 2.0 as a play on Web 2.0) that are transforming the practice of law and changing the legal landscape, probably faster than some incumbents would like. LawTechTV (LTTV) also offers strategic legal technology consulting services to law firms (and some corporate counsel) that are struggleing with making the move online.

Why enable the competition? Good question. I don't work with direct competitors. Although a large law firm with many practice areas that happens to do some cyberlaw is probably OK. The focus of LTTV is almost entirely on boutique firms and solo practitioners that are looking for an edge. There are clear synergies between both businesses, but to understand why you need to understand more about how online marketing works.

It is not simply about having a website, although that is an obvious requirement. It is more about funneling traffic to a site in order to drive revenue. It is about online marketing, which should not be confused with search engine optimization(SEO), although SEO is certainly a part of the mix. It is also about leveraging the Internet as infrastructure to build and sustain a competitive advantage, which includes both driving down costs and monetizing new media in interesting ways.

In short, we believe the web is about community. Feed the network and the network feeds you.

Blogs R' US

I am an Internet Lawyer and a blogger not necessarily in that order on any given day.

I also consult with other attorneys regarding online marketing, of which blogging is obviously a part. I have been blogging for a couple of years now. Prior to practicing law I was a certified geek for twenty years, having worn more technology hats than I care to remember.

If you're interested in reading about issues of importance to the Internet and the Law, read here.

.I absolutely love what Michele has started here and hope both to learn and contribute.

Hi Carlos--thanks so much for joining! I look forward to learning from you, too, as it sounds like in your practice you're exploring a lot of the areas that I think more organizations need to be exploring--how the Internet can transform their businesses.
